MAIN OBJECTIVE

To master your voice to express feelings through singing and achieve the independence to continue your vocal development.

LEVEL'S OBJECTIVE

(Duration: Approximately 6 months)

Basic Level: Mastering and calibration of the qualities of the voice.

(Pitch, Timbre, Volume y Duration)

Intermediate Level: Mastering of Basic tonal ornaments.

(Mordent, Apoyatura, Vibrato)

Advanced Level: Mastering of ornaments in every quality of sound and its combinations.

Professional Level: Vocal Creativity and Style

Specialization: Teacher of the Mayré Martínez Method

AREAS TO DEVELOP

1. Cognitive: Voice and Singing Theory.
Consists of all the detailed academic information given to the student to better comprehend each aspect of the objective he/she would like to reach. ´

2. Muscular: Toning of the Vocal Apparatus.
Through breathing and vocalization excersises.

3. Ear Training: This is the supervision area. It helps the singer stay between the parameters and musical standards form the audience’s point of view; it’s quality control for your voice!

Melodic Ear: Absorbing and memorizing melodies
Rhythmic Ear: Absorbing and memorizing rhythmic patterns
Relative Ear: Identifying a note in reference to another
Harmonic Ear: Absorbing and memorizing chords and voices of a choir
Critical Ear: Detecting already developed qualities, and those to be developed
Absolute Ear: Identifying the pitch of a note without the help of a musical instrument
Expressive Ear: Detecting ornaments that allow the projection of feelings

4. Phonation: The controlling of your vocal emission.
Calibration of the four qualities of your voice: Pitch, Timbre, Volume y Duration

5. Expression: the transmitting of feelings through singing.
Analysis and study of ornaments in every quality of your voice: Pitch, Timbre, Volume and Duration. Development of vocal creativity and style.

6. Concentration: Cohesion of all areas.
It is the rigorous care of each one of these areas while singing.

METHODOLOGY

For the development of those six areas, we have created the following plan:

One hour of weekly, supervised work, with a maximum of three students per class. The class is divided into 3 fundamental, parts, for a total of 60 minutes, as following:

1. Group warm-up, vocalization, and ear-training exercises (15 min.).
2. Individual repertoire coaching. Each student has freedom of repertoire selection (15 min.).
3. Ear and cognitive development while listening to fellow students' repertoire coaching. This is called "indirect learning". It allows the student to absorbe information in a different way than in an individual session, because when we rule out factors like stage fright and concentration, among others, we elevate the percentage of perception of certain essential elements for learning to sing. It also allows the student to understand the way the teacher uses the Mayré Martínez Method, and will then apply it to self-learning, independent home working, or even to teach at our academy once he/she ha completed the course!

15 minutes a day of independent work, in which the student rehearses the piece he/she is working on.

15 minutes a day, 5 times a week, of muscular toning using the Mayré Martínez Daily Vocal Training Plan.

TOOLS

Audio Feedback: Every class, the student’s performance will be recorded to more accurately perceive the qualities the teacher would like to develop, and those that are already developed. It also allows the possibility of comparing recordings made throughout the course and witnessing the fast results!

With this tool, the student will learn to self-evaluate, an essential skill for independent work at home.

Recording Session for Finished Songs: It gives the student the chance to listen to a professional-sounding recording in his/her own voice, allowing them to review and reinforce correct vocal work at home, and giving them the satisfaction of having fulfilled another planned goal.

Video Feedback: Video feedback will help the student observe himself when he is singing, and easily build a powerful stage presence.

Private and Public Concerts, Auditions, Contests, and the Grand Annual Festival with the most outstanding students: This gives constant motivation to continue achieving their goals, to overcome stagefright, develop body expression, experience the montage of a piece for a professional, live show in a concert hall in front of a real audience, and the satisfaction of sharing the result of your hard work and dedication with your loved ones.

PREPARATORY SEMINAIRE

It is presented at the beginning of the course, and reinforced throughout every level. Its topics include:

Anatomy of the Vocal Apparatus and its functions

Qualities of the voice

Pre-Singing prepping (relaxation, warm-up and vocalization)

Basics of Musical Theory

Rehearsal

Vocal Expression (ornamentation)

TEACHING APPROACH

According to the Mayré Martínez Method, the teacher calls attention to all progress shown by the student, relying on the strength he/she gains through the satisfaction of having reached their own goals. This way, each student begins adding up newly developed qualities (fulfilled goals), until the main objective is reached.

The teacher provides each student with information, in the easiest possible way, to ensure full comprehension. Each case is managed uniquely, using examples related to the student's age group or lifestyle.

Exercises customized to their neuro-linguistic perception of choice are selected, while also considering each one's individual learning speed.

1. Ask one of our counselors, by phone or directly at our Academy, to help you find the timeslot that best suits you. Class hours are as follows: (remember, our classes are 60 minutes, once a week):

Aside from our regular singing courses, we offer the following services:

Audio Gym: Optional classes that allow the student a quicker and more effective ear development. For 60 minutes, the teacher guides you through exercises and games, working on the ear training a singer must master, which are:

Melodic Ear Absorbing and memorizing melodies

Rhythmic Ear Absorbing and memorizing rhythmic patterns
Relative Ear identifying a note in reference to another
Harmonic Ear Absorbing and memorizing chords and voices of a choir

Are auditions held to select potential students?
No. The only requirement is to love to sing.

How many levels are there?
There are four: Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Professional.

How will you determine the level I’m in?
Each student will be diagnosed by singing a song of his/her own choice. Then, based on the qualities they have previously developed and those they must develop, a correct level is assigned.

Basic Level: Mastering and calibration of the qualities of the voice.
(Pitch, Timbre, Volume y Duration)
Intermediate Level: Mastering of Basic tonal ornaments.
(Mordent, Apoyatura, Vibrato)
Advanced Level: Mastering of ornaments in every quality of sound and its combinations.
Professional Level: Vocal Creativity and Style
Specialization: Teacher of the Mayré Martínez Method

How long does a level last?
At least 6 months, depending on the student's attendance to the supervised classes, and the daily practice time each student puts in. It also depends on each individual’s learning process.

How long is each supervised class?
60 minutes.

How much time should my practice sessions at home take?
15 minutes of vocalization (with the Daily Vocal Training System by Mayré Martínez) and 15 of rehearsal (as recommended by the Mayré Martínez Method)

How many students will be in my class?
A maximum of 3.

May I take private lessons?
Yes. However, we recommend taking group lessons because of what we call “indirect learning”, which comes through experimenting the experience of your classmates.

How frequent will my supervised classes be?
60 minutes, once a week.

May I take more than one class a week?
If a short-term project were to come up, in which case the student is full-time committed to singing, we offer a 3-times-a-week master course. This frequency should not be exceeded, for the information may seem saturating and slow the learning process. If there is no major rush, we recommend taking one hour a week. The idea is have a whole week to work on your goal, on your own time, to assimilate it correctly, with no pressure.

What style or genre do you teach?
The style is up to the student’s taste.

How old do I have to be to begin?
Our teaching style is light, fun and unforced; so children may begin at a younger age, depending on his/her adaptation. Children generally begin at seven. However, fully aware and respectful of uniqueness, we accept younger children for a one month trial.

Am I too old to begin?
There is no age limit. Some of our most outstanding students are senior citizens.

Is the Academy only for people who want to sing professionally?
Not necessarily. It's for everyone who loves singing and would like to learn to do it well, be it for themeselves, friends, family, at a party, on the Karaoke, or on the stage all around the world.

Will I get some kind of certificate for passing each level?
Yes. Once each level is completed, a special certificate will be awarded, and you will receive a diploma at the end of the course.

Will Mayré be teaching my class?
No; however, she is known to appear, sometimes as a guest and others as a special guest singer for the academy's events! Many times she'll gather her students for a round of tips before a show. Also, there are occasional contests, held by the Academy, to win a master class by Mayré.

How long will it take for me to sing well?
Once you pass the intermediate level, you are capable of singing in public with success, minding you’ve correctly rehearsed the song you would like to interpret.

Who Is Mayré Martínez?

Noted Venezuelan singer, winner of the first season of the latin version of American Idol. Creator of the method that carries her name, and founder of “Mayré Martínez Singing Academy”.

At age 4 she began to study with an array of private teachers form all over the World, and studied Music at the Conservatorio Lino Gallardo and Keyboards at the Roland Learning Center.

Early into her studies, she concerted many school events; and in 1994 began to sing professionally in countless productions and television spots for companies such as Mattel, Ford, Chinotto and Fundición Pacífico, among others.

In 1998 she was invited by Ricardo Montaner to sing by his side on his "Es Así" Tour.

From 1999 through to 2001 she gave several concerts around Venezuela and abroad alongside Producer/Guitarist Iván Weinreb, recieving the 2000 Internacional Talent Award from the Latin American Song Festival (Festival de la Canción Latinoamericana) in California, USA, for "Con Nadie Más", written by both. This award had only been given twice in 21 years of nominations.

In 2001 Mayré Martínez, along with Iván Weinreb, decided to create the Singing Academy (Academia de Canto El Arte de Cantar), teaching Mayré Martínez’s own method. Since that year, Mayré and her team have succesfully held the Mayré Martínez Singer’s Festival (Festival de Cantantes Mayré Martínez), where the alumni present the result of their hard work to their friends and family.

They conjunctly create the Daily Vocal Training System (El Plan de Entrenamiento Vocal Diario), first in the Voz Series, to offer all singing lovers and voice professionals a complete and independent vocalization system.

Towards the end of that same year, the Internacional Association of Musical Education included Mayré's academy in their directory of related organizations, aknowledging it as the best of its kind in Venezuela.

Later in 2005 and 2006, this multifaceted artist took part in the highest rated reality show in Venezuela, Fama Sudor y Lágrimas, where she sung every Sunday on primetime televisión for 9 months, reaching an audience of over 11 million, and always getting top marks.

In the year 2006, she competed in the first season of the latin version of “American Idol”. Witnessed by millions of viewers in over 26 countries in Latin America, the biggest talent search this continent had ever seen, and topping 25.000 contestants, Mayré is chosen by audience and judges as the first Latin American Idol.

Back in Venezuela with one of the most celebrated triumphs in her country’s recent history, she becomes the most “printed” celebrity in the media history of her home country.

The famed tv show Sábado Sensacional dedicated her a special show, full of heart-warming, personal surprises, and declared November Fourth to be Mayré Martínez Day in Venezuela. She was later invited to receive one of the most important awards an artist can receive in Venezuela, The Orchid (La Orquídea), in a category created specially for her: ”The Orchid of Merit” (“Orquídea Al Mérito”)

At year’s end she had already added another important award to her list. The ”2 de Platino”, for Breakthrough Performer with Most International Reach, is given to her by RCTV.

Still managing to pursue a growing singing career, Mayré continues at the head of her singing academy where she has prepared extraordinary educators to teach her singing method and further help the birth of new artists.

Taking advantage of her insight on these type of contests, she holds a workshop called RealiTips, with the help of fellow Latin American Idol contestant, John Paul Ospina, in hopes to prepare her students to compete on the next edition. That’s how Silvia De Freitas, one of Mayré’s students since age 12 and afterwards teacher at the academy, came out 5th on season 2 of Latin American Idol, making her the only Venezuelan contestant that season.

So ends a successful year, in which she shared the stage with the ranks of Franco de Vita, Sin Bandera, Simon Díaz and Danny Rivera, among others.

She kicks off to a great 2007, landing advertising campaigns with celebrated shoe brand Kickers, and Digitel, one of the top names in Venezuela’s telecommunications. They took her on a cross-country tour, made a video for her single, “Soy Mi Destino” and a cable tv special for music network HTV.

On August 21st, she celebrated the release of her first album, a themed CD+DVD set reviving the highlights of her Latin American Idol days, including the songs that fueled her success at LAI’s grand finale: “Soy Mi Destino” by Jon Secada and “Quiero Soñar” by Obie Bermúdez and Sebastián Krys

On May 25th 2008, she released “La Reina de la Noche” off her upcoming album, over the internet, on her website http://www.mayremartinez.com/.
